Out of the Eating Trap

It’s crazy that I didn’t realize this much earlier, the vicious cycles I would get myself into. However, in my late 30’s I finally did realize, and it was clear as day. Before that I tried to stop cold turkey but found myself always falling back into the same trap. This is a continuation and to my previous article “Emotional and Bored Eater” and my solution for getting “Out Of The Eating Trap”.
I woke up one morning after a day and night of emotional eating feeling absolutely disgusted with myself. My stomach was bloated, I had gained weight, I was feeling tired, my skin was a mess, and I did not like myself very much. I frantically searched on google for anything that could help me with this awful addiction. I found an article that talked about healthy substitute foods that I could eat instead when I felt the urge.
My Plan Of Attack
I immediately went to the supermarket, went through the isles to pick out a substitute for sweet cravings, for me that is no sugar chewing gum, no sugar coke or sprite and fruit. For the more savory option I chose hummus, olives, celery, nuts (pistachios, almonds and cashews), flavored rice crackers and gurkins. My “stopping cold turkey” strategy lasted for about 4 to 5 days, usually during the week. With the healthier substitute options, I went for months without having any sort of urge towards sugar, saturated fats, or salt. My skin was clean, my moods were stable, my weight was fully under control, and I was beginning to enjoy every day without feeling tired and unwell. I can highly recommend trying this, it changed my life!

How I View My Body Now
I love this analogy but imagine filling a car repeatedly with dirty fuel. You are late to your regular service appointments and when you do service your car you ask for the cheapest oil and filters. Not only that, but when a repair needs to be done, you ask for aftermarket parts or even secondhand ones. You start to realize your car is costing you more on repairs over the long term.
This is how I view my body now, like a car! If I do not fuel my body with the right foods, if I do not drink enough water, my body (my heart being the engine) will seize to work properly and will suffer the consequences by continues hospital visits and a shortened life. I personally do not want a shortened life! With my newfound mentality on food and this analogy I swear and live by, I am happy to say I am a changed man!
